Obituary:

Ray Franklin Godwin, 89, of Marble Hill, MO died Sept. 17, 2009 at the Eldercare of Marble Hill.

He was born Oct. 9, 1919 at Sikeston, MO, son of Cecil and Myrtle Belver Godwin. He and Louise Elliott were married January 14, 1939 in Charleston, MO and she preceded him in death on Dec. 1, 2004.

Ray, was a retired farmer and plumber, he attended the Point Pleasant General Baptist Church near Marble Hill and had served his country proudly during WWII with the Merchant Marines. He served in the Philippines aboard the USS Iran Victory.

Survivors include sons; Bobby Ray Godwin, James Franklin Godwin, Michael Allen Godwin all of Marble Hill, daughters; Patsy L. Massey, Marble Hill, Connie Ann Hahn, Bloomsdale, MO, La Donna Kaye Mayfield, Marble Hill, brothers; Harold Godwin, Knoxville, TN, J. W. Godwin, Hollister, MO, Glen Godwin, Oran, MO, a sister, Joyce Castleberry, Mt. Juliet, TN, nineteen grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren and fifteen great-great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was a son Ronald Lee Godwin, a grandson, two great grandsons and one great-great grandson.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, Saturday Sept. 19, 2009, at the Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill. The funeral service will be Sunday at 1:00 PM, at the funeral home chapel with Kelly Francis and Rev. Bobby Robbins officiating. Burial with full military honors by the Missouri Honors Team and Hayden Mayfield, bugler, will follow in the Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery.
