Obituary:

Dorcas Mae Russell was born October 7, 1933, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Henry Ira and Carrie Etta Wall Lawless. She departed earthly life on December 26, 2006, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. She was 73 years two months and 19 days of age.

Dorcas enjoyed experiencing life. At an early age she left home in Ohio and moved to Kentucky to make a living. She married a handsome soldier, Charles "Bill" Russell on Oct. 10, 1952, in Jeffersonville, Indiana. She waited through the Korean War for him to return home. Five children were born to their union: James Russell of Soda Springs, Idaho; Sunny Neely of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; Roberta Bailey of Scopus, Mo.; Gail Isom of Ironton, Mo.; and Charles Russell, Jr. of Marble Hill, Mo.

She was interested in many things with home decorating her favorite. She was always sewing; could hang wallpaper like a professional; and loved to create craft items. While in her 40's she attained her GED and attended an upholstery school to learn the trade. She was an avid reader and experienced muc of life through many occupations: nurses aide, waitress, truck driver, pallet mill laborer, upholsterer and school bus driver.

Besides her children she is survived by nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry and Charles Lawless of Ohio; and three sisters, Bonnie Johnson and Pauline Weber of Ohio, and Caroline Rich of Texas. Her husband, Bill, a grandchild, two sisters, Lee and Marie, and a brother, James, preceeded her in death.

Committal and burial was held Wed., Dec. 27, 2006, at Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery near Marble Hill, Mo. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held Sat., Dec. 30, 2006, at 3 PM at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill. Officiants will be Dr. John Englehart and Honorable Scott Thomasen.
