Obituary:

Jacie "Fern" Mayfield, 82, of Marble Hill, Mo., died Sept. 6, 2009, at Elder Care of Marble Hill nursing center. She was born on Dec. 23, 1922, near Millersville, Mo., the daughter of Henry Zackary and Zettie Estelle Bollinger Hahs. She married Lynn Darce Mayfield on June 15, 1940. He died on June 29, 1980.

Fern worked as a caregiver in private homes for the past 30 years. Previously she was employed at shoe factories in Lutesville and Jackson. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include sons, Larry Mayfield of Millersville, and Carl Mayfield of Marble Hill; and daughters, Oneta Walker and Cathy Thompson both of Marble Hill; a brother, Jack Hahs of Cape Girardeau, a sister, Stella McKee, of Jackson, Mo; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, two brothers, and one sisters.

Visitation will be Tuesday at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Wed. at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Fred Ritter officiating. Burial will be in Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery near Marble Hill.
