Obituary:

Oletha Kathleen "Kate" Slinkard, 91, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, May 17, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born April 28, 1911, at Gravelton, Mo., daughter of James Milton and Emma Elizabeth Johnson Abernathy. She and John Andrew Slinkard were married April 19, 1933, at Fredericktown, Mo. He preceded her in death April 26, 1960.

Oletha was a nurse's aide at Southeast Missouri Hospital, retiring in 1970. She was a member and taught Sunday School at Red Star Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son-in-law, Donald Simpher of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Ruby Montgomery of Ellisville, Mo.; a grandson and wife, Brad and Carmen Simpher of Jackson; two great-grandchildren, Brandon Simpher and Cassie Simpher of Jackson; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1960, two daughters, a stepson, three brothers, and a sister.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Cy Smith officiating. Burial will be in Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery at Marble Hill, Mo.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
