Obituary:

Kathleen M. Shrum Husk, 65, of Shell Knob, Missouri, died Saturday, August 2, 2014, in Springfield, Missouri.

Kathy was born August 24, 1948, the daughter of P.L. Leo Shrum and Marie A. Conrad Shrum.

She attended Bollinger County schools and graduated from Woodland High School in 1966. It was while in school that she met and began dating Jerry D. Husk. After her graduation from college and once Jerry completed his army tour (which included Vietnam), they married and lived many happy years together.

Throughout her life, Kathy brought dedication, enthusiasm and a caring attitude to all she did. In her student years, Kathy was involved in multiple extracurricular activities as a cheerleader, band member, choir member, class officer and many more. Kathy's early interest and devotion to her religious faith and music never changed. She graduated with honors from Central Methodist College at Fayette, Missouri, with a major in music. She was a consummate vocalist, pianist, organist and played multiple other musical instruments. She taught elementary music for seven years in the Farmington, Missouri, school system and 23 years in the Potosi, Missouri, system.

As an elementary music teacher, Kathy had contact with and influenced every student who came through those schools during her tenure. It was truly a pleasure to attend school programs led by Kathy and see the discipline and respect she was able to instill in such large and diverse groups of children. It was equally obvious that the school patrons and other teachers had great respect and admiration for Kathy's work with the students.

Kathy also used her musical skills in connection with her religious faith, serving at pianist, organist, vocalist and choir director during the years she attended Methodist churches in Potosi and Shell Knob.

In retirement, Kathy and Jerry moved to Shell Knob where they worked together to build a new home and develop beautiful lawns and flower gardens. Kathy's lifelong love of flowers and her hard work in her flower beds was evident wherever she lived.

Kathy always had a pet and loved them all, but no doubt her favorite was "Buddy," a Jack Russell terrier who died in 2014.

Kathy's survivors include her husband, Jerry D. Husk; a brother, Kenneth W. Shrum; a sister, Sandra S. Shrum Scott; and multiple nephews, nieces and their descendants.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hutchings Funeral Home in Marble Hill, Missouri.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Marble Hill United Methodist Church in Marble Hill.

A memorial service will also be at a time to be announced at the Shell Knob United Methodist Church.
