Obituary:

Alta Marie Johns, 92, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at the Monticello House.

She was born Aug. 29, 1918, in Ridgely, Tenn., daughter of William and Florence Ayers Holmes.

She and James H. Johns were married Aug. 11, 1936. He passed away Dec. 20, 2002.

Alta was an active member of Shawnee Hills Baptist Church in Jackson. She was also a member of the Holiday Travel Club and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Mexico.

Loving survivors include a son, Harold (Jean) Johns of Jackson; a daughter, Joyce Johns Burk Lubinski (Jerry) of St. Louis; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Florence "Marie" Gibson.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Don Estes officiating.

Interment will follow in Bollinger County Memorial Park near Marble Hill, Mo.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Shawnee Hills Baptist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
