Obituary:

Leeman Haze Payne, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at Southeast Hospital.

He was born Feb. 11, 1928, at Zalma, Mo., son of Eli and Lydia Fee. He and Dorothy Hendershott were married March 17, 1947. She preceded him in death July 24, 2000.

Leeman was of the Baptist belief.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and earned two medals as a CBI.

He was a member of American Legion, Kiwanis, Apprentice Free Mason of Masonic Temple in Cape Girardeau, and a winner of the Dale Carnegie Speech Awards from the University of Missouri.

Leeman and Dorothy owned and operated General Pest Control Inc. in Cape Girardeau 35 years. Leeman also built and sold homes in the Cape Girardeau and Bollinger County areas.

Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Vowels of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Dr. Christopher Lee Vowels, Gretchen Dora Hildman, Katrina Anne Vowels; two great-grandchildren, Clara Belle Hildman and Victoria Jade Vowels.

He was preceded in death by his wife and three brothers, Carmen, Denver and Bob.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill, Mo.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Fred Ritter officiating. Burial and full military honors with Missouri Honor Guard will follow at the pavilion in Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery in Marble Hill.
