Obituary:

Mavis M. Huey, 76, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born Feb. 15, 1929, at Chaffee, Mo., daughter of Walter L. and Pearl I. Gobble Carter. She and Dorris Allen Huey were married March 6, 1948, in Chaffee.

Mrs. Huey was a member of East Cape Baptist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher more than 50 years and had been active in the WMU since she was 19 years old. She was also involved in a prison bible study, a hospital ministry, and had taught Cherokee and Navajo children while in Farmington, N.M., and Cherokee, N.C.

While a resident of New Jersey for three years she did volunteer mission work for the New York Baptist Association and was a member of the Gideon's International Auxiliary.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry Lynne Pressley and husband Wayne of Cape Girardeau, Jana Leigh Saxon and husband Jim of Independence, Mo.; three grandchildren, Jamie Leigh Saxon of Fort Worth, Texas, Jared Allen Saxon of Independence, and Sarah Lynn Goin of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Juanita Joyce Carter.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau today from 4 to 8 p.m.

The funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. John Marshall officiating. Burial will be in Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery in Marble Hill, Mo.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the East Cape Baptist Church Missions Offering or to the Gideon's International Association.
